Staff consulted over redundancy

Staff at a measuring equipment factory at Wotton-Under-Edge are being asked to consider voluntary redundancy.

A spokesman for Renishaw said it had been hit by falling sales in the last few months. In all it employs 1,400 people in the UK.

Assistant chief executive Ben Taylor said staff were working out how many positions would need to go.

He said the company was acting swiftly in an attempt to ensure its future viability.
