Gloucester city and Cheltenham borough councils remain hung while the Conservatives hold Stroud after the local elections. In Cheltenham, the Lib Dems picked up three seats and now have 20 councillors. Labour lost its only seat and the Tories kept their 17 seats. Gloucester declared its results early Friday afternoon. The Tories gained two seats in Barton and Tredworth wards. In Stroud the Conservatives remain in control. "The Lib Dems are on the increase, which is great news," Martin Horwood, Lib Dem MP for Cheltenham said. "It is a bad night for Labour and the Tories." Losing Labour candidate, Brian Hughes, said: "We're obviously sad to see the end of Labour representation in Cheltenham. "But I can assure you, it's only temporary and we will be back."
