Slimbridge Wetland Centre in Gloucestershire is celebrating 60 years of conservation and research. In 1946, the late Sir Peter Scott established the Severn Estuary as a centre for scientific study, public display and wildfowl conservation.
Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust Chief Executive, Martin Sperry, told the BBC there was much to celebrate.
To mark the anniversary at Slimbridge, visitors are being granted free admission throughout Friday.
