City gets tough on litter louts
City centre ranger, Terry Duffus, wearing the camera
The council says it spends 1m per year keeping the city clean
City rangers in Gloucester are to be given head-worn cameras to gather video evidence of people dropping litter.

Since June the city has adopted a "zero-tolerance" approach and money from the 75 on-the-spot fines has been used to fund the new cameras.

Video evidence from the cameras will be used in court if the fine is not paid and the council decides to prosecute.

A council spokesman said there would be "no escape" for people who treat the city as a giant dustbin.

"The message is simple - don't throw litter on the streets of Gloucester otherwise you'll pay heavily."
