| More than 1,000 new kitchens have been installed in Cheltenham council housing as part of a government initiative to upgrade housing standards. The improvements, which started in January, have also seen new bathrooms and heating systems installed. Cheltenham Borough Council says the project to bring homes up to the government's Decent Homes Standard will be completed by 2008. A council spokesman said the work was two years ahead of government targets.
