New admissions were sent to Cheltenham General Hospital

The decision comes after two cases of the disease were diagnosed at the hospital last week.

Staff who had not already had the illness were sent home and children needing treatment at the weekend were sent to Cheltenham.

The �5m children's unit, which has a 44-bed capacity, opened last December.

A hospital trust spokeswoman said: "Appropriate precautions have been put in place which included sending home staff who are not known to be immune to the measles virus.

"Because of this, children who had needed to come into hospital over the weekend were diverted to Cheltenham General Hospital.

"Anyone concerned that they have been in contact with a case of measles should seek advice from their GP."
