Trading standards officials in Gloucestershire are warning of a parcel delivery telephone scam. People have reported receiving cards through the post telling them that an FM radio is awaiting delivery.
But the cost of the four-minute premium rate call to arrange the drop is 6.00, which officials believe is more than the value of the radio itself.
Head of Trading Standards, Roger Marle, said it was a blatant attempt to sell people unsolicited goods.
"The cost of the radio is in the use of the premium rate call. The radio will therefore be one that you can buy locally in discount shops for less than the cost of the telephone call," he said.
"We are concerned that people may be genuinely misled that this postcard is an attempt to arrange delivery of goods by a courier."
He is advising anyone who believes they have been misled by the postcard to report their concerns to the Independent Committee for the Supervision of Standards of Telephone Information Services.
