 Clubbers will be handed lollipops for free |
Clubbers in Gloucester are to be given lollipops to try and cut violent behaviour in the run-up to Christmas. Around 20,000 lollies will be handed out at closing time at the city's clubs and pubs by the Gloucester Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership.
Pc Kevin Ireland said: "The idea is that people will have something else to do with their hands and be distracted from violence when they leave a club."
The use of lollies in this way has been trialled in Blackpool and Cardiff.
Pc Ireland added: "It may seem like a strange idea but with so many people coming out of a club at one time the potential for violence to break out is always there, and so we hope that this initiative will go some way to reducing that."
The initiative is being funding by the Government Office of the South West.
