School sports given lottery cash
Schools in the South West are to benefit from grants of more than 320,000 to boost children's sports.

Four schools across the region will be given a share of 322,828 lottery cash from the Big Lottery Fund to pay for sports coordinators.

The funding is part of a UK-wide scheme to promote after-school sports.

Kingshill School in Cirencester; King Arthur's Community School in Wincanton; Shaftesbury School in Dorset, and The Kings School in Devon will all benefit.

Kingshill School has been given 94,948 to encourage more children to take part in sports by offering trampolining, skateboarding, yoga and pilates - alongside more traditional activities.

The school hopes such activities will improve pupils' self-esteem and foster their leadership skills.

Rachel O'Bryan, partnership development manager, said: "This will create pathways into sport and physical activity for children who otherwise might not have had the opportunity to participate."
