Vehicle owners urged to 'lock up'
Vehicle owners have been warned to be extra security-conscious over the summer months.

Police figures show that thefts from and of cars, vans, motorbikes and mopeds go up in July and August.

Owners are urged to remove keys from the ignition and lock up, even if they are away from their vehicles for only a short time.

Gloucestershire police were reminding people that simple measures could prevent them becoming victims of crime.

Superintendent, Dean Walker, said: "We cannot help people if they do not take on some responsibility for protecting their own property.

"The most frustrating area of police work is when many people do not take basic common sense steps to prevent themselves from becoming victims of crime."
