The owner of one of the last steam locomotives to be built in the UK may have to sell it because of soaring maintenance costs.

The Black Prince, a class 9F heavy freight locomotive, is owned by the wildlife artist David Shepherd.

The engine, built at Swindon railway works in 1959, was rededicated at Toddington station, Gloucs, on Monday.

After the ceremony, Mr Shephard said the train needed work on its wheels, which could cost up to 28,000.

Mr Shepherd saved engine no 92203 from the scrap heap and named it Black Prince, when steam locomotion declined in the late 60s.
