Devices seized from cash machines
Card scanner
Card scanners were found on two cashpoint machines
Hi-tech card-scanners have been seized by police from two cash machines in Gloucestershire.

The devices were found at Lloyds ATMs in Cheltenham's Bath Road and at Gloucester's Asda store in Metz Way.

Customers who used either of these machines on Thursday are urged to contact their banks immediately.

Police warn that the devices are not readily apparent and victims may not know they have been robbed until they check their balances.

The "false throat scanners" consist of a magnetic strip reader, a tiny camera which records the PIN number, and a receiver which is usually hidden nearby.

They differ from the so-called Lebanese Loop which traps a customer's card, allowing the thief time to memorise the PIN number and later retrieve the card.

Police are appealing for information about the offences and in particular want to identify three men appearance who were seen in the area of Metz Way on Thursday.

Crime Reduction Officer Pc Paul Francis said: "If you notice anything unusual on the card slot, leave it on the machine.

"Do not use it and report it to the bank, if it is open, and to the police immediately. The offenders are likely to be quite close by."
