Poor elver season predicted
Elver fisherman
A licence is needed to fish for the baby eels along the River Severn
Experts fear there could be a poor elver season on the River Severn in Gloucestershire this year.

It is thought low spring tides followed by the recent floods could have a devastating effect on the harvest.

Hartley Everett, who fishes for elvers on the Severn every year, says the rest of Europe has been suffering too.

"Judging by what they've caught abroad it's going to be a very poor season."

In past years elvers have sold for up to 150 per kilogram during the brief fishing season in April.
