The planned redevelopment may not now go ahead |
A planned 6m redevelopment of the ground at Gloucester Rugby Club (GRFC) will not take place next summer. The shock news came in a letter sent to members of the Kingsholm Supporters Mutual over the weekend.
It stated that the project would not go ahead at the end of the current season.
As a result, the recently-announced GRFC share issue will not be taking place.
The club announced ambitious plans to redevelop its Kingsholm ground last September.
'Furious'
The work depended on 2m being raised by the club, fans and commercial partners by January 2004.
Chairman Tom Walkinshaw said: "It is not possible to do everything within the window we have available for the 2004/05 season.
"The club has experienced planning, operational and design difficulties with the initial proposal.
"It has set itself a target of the next two months to liaise further with all parties, including planners, the council, the architects and the Kingsholm Supporters Mutual, to put the right plan in place."
Gloucester fan Brian Webb from Tuffley, said: "I'm absolutely furious, I could kick somebody. How far behind are we already?
"This Saturday we have the Harlequins game which is sold out, most of the matches are sold out and you can't get a ticket for love or money," he said.
