It is hoped the technology will help save lives |
Gloucestershire's firefighters are pioneering satellite broadband technology to help save lives at major emergencies. When firefighters arrive at an emergency scene, they can now use a system in their mobile command centre to access information and applications at headquarters.
This is done using satellite technology and a broadband link.
The technology is already in use in the US, and is expected to be used in the UK at the International Air Tattoo and the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Chief Fire Officer Peter Jones said "This technology could be a life saver in many common situations.
"Officers can make decisions with real time, fast and relevant information such as plans and risk files, without reliance on ficed line telephones."
"It's welcomed enthusiastically throughout the service."
