The Duke of Edinburgh joined visitors at the show |
The Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford has been hailed a huge success as the Duke of Edinburgh joined the crowds in Gloucestershire. More than 500 aircraft are on display at the show, believed to be Europe's largest military air display.
Some 200,000 visitors are thought to have flooded onto the airbase over the weekend.
And VIP guests including the Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Feisal of Jordan were among those enjoying the airbourne action.
Planespotters and aircraft enthusiasts began gathering at the site as early as Thursday to watch the preparations for the show.
This year the RIAT celebrates the centenary of the Wright brothers' landmark flight, when Wilbur and Orville Wright took off for the first time on December 17, 1903 in North Carolina.
The Eurofighter was on public display for the first time |
Security has been stepped up at the show after demonstrations at the base during the Iraq war.
Modern aircraft including the B2 stealth bomber, the Eurofighter and the WAH-64D Apache, the Army's latest attack helicopter, are on display.
And for the traditionalists, there are plenty of vintage planes, including the world's oldest flying aircraft, a 1912 Etrich Taube from Germany.
All money raised at the event goes to the RAF Benevolent Fund.
