Care death inquiry chairman named
Cissy Townsend
Mrs Townsend was moved against the advice of her doctor
An ex-council chief executive has been appointed to chair the inquiry into the death of an elderly woman days after she was forced to leave her nursing home.

Don Latham, former boss at West Wiltshire District Council, will oversee the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Violet Townsend.

Mrs Townsend, 88, who was known as Cissy, lived at Magdalene House in Gloucester for eight years.

But after the charity which runs it put its prices up, Gloucestershire County Council refused to pay the 88 difference, forcing her to move to a new home further away.

Mrs Townsend had suffered a severe stroke which meant she could not speak and was dependent on carers.

She was moved against the advice of her doctor and the wishes of her family, and died five days later.
