The Verve played at Weston on Saturday and Hylands on Sunday |
The V Festival in Essex has been hailed a success by police after "extremely low levels" of crime were reported. More than 80,000 festival-goers attended Hylands Park in Chelmsford each day - with only 80 crimes reported over the three-day event. There were 124 arrests, mainly for theft, drug possession, public order offences and assault. Crime figures are down compared to last year when 138 offences were reported and 42 people arrested, police said. The two-site event took place over the weekend at Hylands Park, Chelmsford, and Weston Park, in Staffordshire. 'Fantastic entertainment' The Verve, Kings of Leon and Muse all played at the festival on Sunday, which is now in its 13th year. There was a high visibility police presence at the festival in Chelmsford with officers on bikes patrolling. This enabled them to speak to festival-goers, giving them advice and guidance. Supt Tim Newcomb, of Essex Police, said: "From our point of view a lot of credit must be given to the thousands of festival-goers, the vast majority of whom enjoyed a fantastic weekend's entertainment in a good-natured way. "We were able to deal effectively with the minor problems that arose and are delighted to report a huge reduction in crime and disorder in comparison to previous years."
