BAA wants to boost passenger capacity at Stansted Airport |
Campaigners opposed to expansion plans which could boost the number of passengers using Stansted Airport have launched a fundraising appeal. Uttlesford District Council last week refused a BAA expansion application, citing nine reasons for refusal.
BAA will appeal against the decision and take the case to a public inquiry.
The Stop Stansted Expansion group has launched a campaign to raise 100,000 to pay for expert witnesses and legal advisors to challenge the plans.
The group said more that 10,000 had been pledged by members of the community before the appeal was announced.
Airport operator BAA said any refusal would not affect plans to build the second runway at Stansted.
