Ryanair denies charges alleging misleading flight prices |
Budget airline Ryanair has been cleared of misleading travellers about the price of flying with rival Buzz, jurors at Chelmsford Crown Court have heard. Its internet advertising claimed some Buzz flights cost more than they did, Essex trading standards said.
But a judge ruled that 10 allegations that the airline exaggerated the cost of the flights on its website two years ago should be dismissed.
Ryanair still faces eight charges of misleading people about flight costs.
On Monday an Essex County Council spokesman said 10 charges had been dismissed after a judge ruled that a press release in which the claims about Buzz flights were made did not constitute an advertisement.
The eight other charges relate to the cost of its flights in website advertising.
Trading standards officers say flight prices listed on the Ryanair website did not spell out the added cost of insurance and tax.
Dublin-based company Ryanair, which has an office at Stansted Airport in Essex, denies any breach of consumer legislation.
The trial at Chelmsford is expected to end later this week.
