Tax fight pensioner addresses EU
Council tax rebel
Tony Constable claims rises are not in line with European standards
A pensioner who is campaigning for a lower council tax bill, is taking his case to the European Parliament.

Tony Constable, from Colchester, in Essex, will address MEPs in Brussels.

Following last year's council tax increases Mr Constable put a petition together as part of his campaign and collected 5,400 signatories.

He says tax increases have not been matched by increases in the state pension which breaches sections of the EU's Social Chapter.

Mr Constable claims pensioners are being unfairly dealt with by both the UK Government and by Colchester Borough Council.

He sent the petition to the European Parliament last summer, asking them to review the situation in the UK.

The European Parliament accepted has asked the European Commission to comment.
