Car 'cruisers' welcomed at resort
Proud young car owners who illegally "cruise" along Southend seafront in the past are to be welcomed this weekend.

The initiative is aimed at controlling the unofficial events, eliminating troublemakers and improving the image of the seaside resort.

In the past police have sought to crack down on the so called "boy racers", who show off their souped-up cars.

Now they have officially organised a "cruise night", which from Saturday night will become a monthly event.

Controlling bad eggs

Cruiser Ashley Moore says it will get rid of the bad eggs in the bunch.

"There are just a few who go over the top and cause trouble. I hope they join in properly," he said.

Police officers who came up with the scheme also hope the monthly event will be trouble free.
