The collection could fetch as much as 10,000
A collection of photographs of a young Winston Churchill are to be auctioned after being rescued from a bin.

The 150 black and white pictures depict Churchill's early career and could fetch up to 10,000.

The photographs, being offered on 3 March at Dominic Winter Book Auctions, belong to the wife of a former Daily Telegraph journalist in Essex.

They are thought to have turned up when the newspaper moved from Fleet Street to Canary Wharf.

They chart Churchill's time in Lord Asquith's Liberal Government, recording events from 1908 to 1915.

'Like Hen's teeth'

Many of them have not been published for more than 90 years.

Images include him campaigning for election in 1914 and visiting troops - and even one titled "An attempted molestation by a suffragette" in Aberdeen in 1912.

The album bears the gilt stamp "The Right Honourable Winston Churchill, Chartwell Manor, Westerham", which was Churchill's Kent home, and it is thought it was given to him as a gift and then loaned out.

Chris Albury, who values documents for the auction house in Swindon, said: "They're like hens' teeth.

"Most images of Churchill are of wartime with his cigar, so pictures from this date are more unusual and very desirable."

It is expected parties such as the Imperial War Museum will be interested in the collection.
