Mohammed was the sole survivor of the Sudan air crash |
A baby boy who was the sole survivor of an air crash which killed 116 people is improving at a specialist burns unit. Mohamed el-Fatih Osman, who is 22 months old, was moved to the unit at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, Essex, last month following the crash in the Sudan in which his mother died.
His condition was critical when he arrived at the hospital.
On Thursday a hospital spokeswoman said Mohamed was improving and he may leave the unit in about a fortnight.
"He is making a very good recovery," said the spokeswoman.
Found by a nomad
"His condition is now stable and he may leave here and be moved to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London in about two weeks' time."
Mohamed suffered 15% burns and lost half of a leg in the crash in early July.
Mohammed was flown to Britain for treatment from Khartoum with his father on a plane paid for by the ruler of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan, who is also paying for his medical care.
The toddler was reportedly found lying on a fallen tree by a nomad after the Boeing 737 went down soon after taking off from Port Sudan Airport on its way to Khartoum.
