Rob Daley said he was looking forward to supporting his son at the Olympics |
The father of champion diver Tom Daley has rejected reports that his brain tumour has returned. Media reports claimed a scan on Rob Daley, 39, had shown a return of the tumour, four years after surgery to remove it. But Mr Daley, from Plymouth, Devon, told BBC News that the reports had been "exaggerated" and he felt "fine". He was speaking after the British Gas National Cup in Sheffield where his son performed a new 'twister' dive. Mr Daley, who devotes most of his time to ferrying his son to training and competitions, said he was looking forward to being with him at the London Olympics in 2012. Daley's 'twister' was seen in qualifying and the final in Sheffield |
He said: "My last set of results on 8 January were not as good as I had been having since May 2006. That's all. "I feel all right. I feel fine." Tom, 15, said the reports had been picked up from an interview in Sheffield. "I said he had a dodgy result the other day, but he's fine," he said. Tom came seventh in the 2008 Olympics and took gold in the 2009 World Diving Championships, becoming Britain's first individual diving world champion. He is considered a serious contender for a gold medal at the London Olympics in 2012.
