Up to 86 jobs could be lost at one of Exeter's biggest employers. Workers at Alcoa Howmet were told last week that the potential redundancies were part of global restructuring. Up to 1,000 people are employed by the firm at its casting and alloy operations facility on the Sowton industrial estate in east Devon. In a statement the company said the job cuts were in "direct response to changes in market conditions, as well as rising operating costs".
