The medics had been been treating casualties injured in Afghanistan. A 40-strong group of medics who have been treating front-line casualties in Afghanistan have returned to Plymouth. Nurses and medical assistants were greeted by loved ones following their three-month deployment. The Royal Navy staff were operating mainly at Camp Bastion hospital, a base in Helmand province for about 3,000 British troops. They will now have a break before returning to duty in the UK, including at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. Nurse Nicky Richardson said: "It's been hard being away from the family, but it's the job you signed up to do so you just get on with it."
