Football fans fight after match

Sidwell Street
About 20 people were found fighting in Sidwell Street by police

Police in Exeter dealt with a series of fights between football fans.

Officers were called to several incidents in the city centre after Exeter City's 1-0 victory over Bradford City at St James' Park on Saturday.

In one incident about 20 people were fighting in Sidwell Street. Two men, one Exeter fan and one Bradford fan, were arrested during the trouble.

Police said they had received no intelligence to indicate that any violence had been planned.

Group dispersed

Police said they received a number of 999 calls at about 1705 GMT informing them that a large fight involving supporters was ongoing in Sidwell Street.

Officers attended the scene and the group dispersed.

Football-related fights then broke out at various locations within the city centre, the force said, and more officers from east and mid Devon were sent in to the city to assist local police.

After two hours, the Bradford City supporters were put on their coach and escorted out of the city.

The arrested Exeter fan was charged with a public order offence. The 39-year-old Bradford fan was arrested on suspicion of causing an affray and released on police bail until 15 April.

There were no reports of any major injuries.
