Thirteen-year-old Plymouth diver Tom Daley has taken the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year title. Since trying diving at the age of seven, Daley has been making quite a splash in a sport which he describes as "controlled falling".
"Diver boy", as his schoolmates call him, won the 10m individual at the recent Senior National Championships.
Daley, who is aiming for gold at the London Olympics, thanked his father Rob for "ferrying him around".
His list of achievements include:
Youngest National Mens Platform Champion Current Highboard and Springboard British Under-18 Champion National Champion in all events (1m, 3m, Platform) in 2004, 2005 and 2006 at relevant age group Gold medal at Australian Junior Elite Diving Championships 2005 Silver in synchronised diving at Australian Youth Olympic Festival 2007 Finalist in the 2007 FINA Diving World Series in Sheffield, finishing just five points off Bronze in the men's 10m individual event
He said: "I'd like to thank my dad for ferrying me around, my grandparents and my school, Eggbuckland Community College.
"My next goal is for the 2008 Olympics and win a gold at the 2012 Olympics and make my country proud."
Daley enhanced his reputation even further when, just hours after learning of his prize, he and partner Blake Aldridge won gold in Canada in the Club Aquatique de Montreal Invitational Meet in Montreal.
