Increase in front-line policing
Chief Constable Stephen Otter
Mr Otter said Operation Cyclone was in response to public concerns
An extra 100 police officers will be moved from desk jobs to front-line policing in Devon and Cornwall in the next year.

The pledge, by Chief Constable Stephen Otter, was made on the eve of Operation Cyclone, a high profile campaign targeting criminals.

"There's no doubt in my mind that's what the public wants," Mr Otter said.

Operation Cyclone will target anti-social behaviour, violent crime and underage drinking.

Mr Otter said dedicated "days of action" would provide an opportunity to demonstrate work being done to keep the public safe.

"We are listening to the concerns of the public and this is an opportunity for us to show how we are acting on them," he said.

"We will be concentrating on those areas that have been raised as particular concerns and where we feel we can make a real difference to people's lives. Make no mistake - we are never complacent."
