Coastguards have warned the public after a man died jumping 30ft (9.14m) onto rocks on the south Devon coast. The 46-year-old from South Wales, who is expected to be named on Monday, died at the scene at Berry Head, Brixham.
He jumped off the roof of a building into the sea in a stunt which is known as "tombstoning".
James Instance of Falmouth Coastguard said people should bear in mind "rocks under the surface of the water which can cause fatal injuries".
'Great danger'
Two anglers, one of whom could not swim, went into the water to rescue the unconscious man, but they could not save him.
Les Jenkin from Brixham Coastguard said: "It is a great danger and goes on year after year despite all our warnings.
"This is a needless accident and quite tragic for the family involved."
In a separate incident, a 29-year-old man was taken to hospital after jumping into the sea in Cornwall and knocking himself unconscious.
Falmouth Coastguards said he had been returning from a night out with friends when he leapt from cliffs into the sea at Trevaunance Cove, near St Agnes.
