A spokesperson for the new ChildLine counselling service in Devon has said more volunteers are needed to cope with the high demand of callers. The NSPCC Devon and Cornwall Young Witness Support Project and ChildLine moved together to new premises in the centre of Exeter in April.
The move from ChildLine's Newton Abbot base generated savings of �100,000.
Cheryl Murray said the charity wanted to increase the number of volunteers from 24 to 100 over the next 12 months.
There is also seven permanent staff who help to operate the 24-hour helpline for children in danger or distress.
Currently only 2,500 children out of 4,500 get through to a councillor in the UK.
ChildLine formally became a part of the NSPCC last year.
The NSPCC Devon and Cornwall Young Witness Support Project supports children who have to give evidence in court about their abuse.
