Protests over recycling centre
Woodbury Salterton protest
A decision is expected in the next few weeks
Residents of an east Devon village have been protesting over plans to build a new recycling centre near their homes.

People in Woodbury Salterton are worried about the effect the new development at the Greendale Recycling Centre will have on their community.

Eileen Gaiger from the village said local people were concerned about noise as well as an increase in traffic.

But Janine Banks from Southwest Planning Consultancy said the project would not impact on local people.

Devon County Council is being asked to grant permission for the plan to create the recycling facilities for Exeter and east Devon including an industrial concrete crusher and woodchipper.

"The amount of traffic has increased enormously, we're a tiny little village," said Mrs Gaiger.

But Ms Banks said that traffic would not go through the village.

"We have undertaken studies on potential noise impact which forms part of the application and they are considered entirely acceptable and the local residents won't be affected," she said

Planners visited the site on Wednesday and a decision is expected in the next few weeks.
