Action could hit Christmas post
Striking postal workers
The centre processes an estimated 1.2 million items every day
Postal workers in Devon are being balloted over industrial action which could disrupt Christmas deliveries to hundreds of thousands of homes.

The Communication Workers Union says it is balloting members at the Exeter Mail Centre as part of the ongoing dispute over flexible working and overtime.

The same issues caused a wildcat strike in the summer.

The Royal Mail says the ballot is disappointing and wants to resolve the issue amicably.

Postal workers held an unofficial strike at the Exeter centre in August, disrupting deliveries to nearly 500,000 homes in the EX and TQ postcode areas of Devon.

Balloting will start on Friday among more than 400 staff and last for two weeks.

The centre processes an estimated 1.2 million letters and parcels every day.
