Young drinkers 'strain resources'
Treating children in Guernsey with drink-related problems is putting a strain on the island's resources according to a health professional.

Nurses' representative Mary Avery who works at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital says some under-age drinkers become aggressive in hospital.

The casualty staff nurse believes more education is needed to help tackle the problem.

Ms Avery said it could also prevent pain and distress for the children.

She told BBC News: "When they wake up and they don't know where they are, they can become aggressive and we often have to call the porters to come and help us restrain them

"We need to take blood tests and put drips up to rehydrate them and it's all a drain on a resources and it's very painful for the children."
