The campaign to bring a historic warship back to its home port in Devon took a big step forward on Thursday. Associated British Ports has offered HMS Plymouth, which played a major role in the Falklands conflict, a berth at the city's Millbay Docks.
HMS Plymouth was built at Devonport in 1958 and 88,000 people came to see it when it was put on display at Millbay Docks in 1989.
Now 75,000 is needed to overhaul the vessel and tow it from Birkenhead.
Mike Critchley, editor of Warship World magazine, is involved in a campaign to bring her back to Plymouth in time for next year's 25th anniversary of the Falklands conflict.
"We need an organisation to put a bid in for the ship to say to the current owner of ship we are a credible organisation in Plymouth, can we purchase your ship and bring her to Plymouth and open her very quickly to the public," he said.
