Police HQ gets new heart machine
Staff at Devon and Cornwall Police headquarters near Exeter have taken delivery of a second emergency defibrillator.

The new heart treatment equipment is in the force control room and can be used by trained staff across the complex.

The new equipment also has a dedicated telephone line to the control room, which means it can be dispatched quickly when needed 24 hours a day.

Police say time saved by the new phone line could mean more lives are saved.

Police Physical Education Officer Sammy Spall said: "If a defibrillator can be brought to a patient within the first few minutes of suffering a cardiac arrest, the equipment can make all the difference and may save a life.

"In this kind of emergency, every second counts and we are sure that this new piece of life-saving equipment will prove to be an important asset to the force."
