Four Devon care homes threatened with closure have been given a reprieve following widespread opposition. In Bampton more than 1,200 people signed a petition calling for Barnhaven to remain open.
There was similar support for Orchard Lea in Cullompton, Kenwyn in Ashburton and Daw Vale in Dawlish.
Devon County Council is to hold talks with private sector care providers to keep the homes open and help develop them to meet future care needs.
