Plymouth is to get more than �8m to tackle anti-social behaviour and to make communities safer, more pleasant places to live. The money is coming from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and will be available between 2006 and 2008.
The biggest pot of money will be �5m from the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund, which targets some of the most deprived local authority areas in England.
Plymouth City Council will be responsible for allocating the cash.
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister said the money could be used in a variety of ways from tackling bullying among young people to starting schemes to reduces the number of burglaries.
The city is also to get nearly �1m from the Safer, Strong Communities Fund and more than �2m from the Cleaner, Safer, Greener initiative.
The green initiative cash will be spent improving on public spaces in the city.
