Indie band Arctic Monkeys have added a date at the Plymouth Pavilions on 18 April to their current UK tour.

Their first album, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, became the fastest-selling debut album in UK music chart history.

Queuing started at 0600 GMT for the �14 tickets which went on sale at 1800 GMT.

Robert Maltby, from the Pavilions, told BBC News: "They're the hottest band of the moment and everyone wants to see them live.

"To get them here in Plymouth has really put the Pavilions on the map for live music in the UK."

The Pavilions limited ticket sales to two per customer.

The four-piece band from Sheffield released their album on 23 January. It has sold more than 360,000 copies, currently outselling the rest of the top 20 album chart combined.

Arctic Monkeys originally built up their fan base on the internet after handing out demo CDs at gigs which were put on the web for other people to hear.

The band has been nominated for best British band, best new band, best live band and best track in the NME Awards on 23 February.

It was expected tickets for the gig will be sold out within a few hours of going on sale.
