Traditions about the order of cream and jam differ |
A special event is being held in Devon on Sunday to celebrate the traditional cream tea. The Devon Slow Food Movement is behind the event in Chagford to teach the public about one of the county's oldest culinary experiences.
Traditions about the order of cream and jam are jealously guarded and differ on either side of the Tamar.
In Devon the cream is used first followed by the jam. In Cornwall it is the other way around.
The group says the humble cream tea is a good example of the local crafts and skills that slow food movement wants to protect.
The Slow Food Movement was set up in 1989 as a reaction to the growing fast food culture, the industrialisation of farming and the homogenization of food production.
Hugh Corbin from the group said it will be an "entertaining and different" sort of cream tea.
"We hope that local suppliers and producers will be there too to talk about their product too," he said.
The event will take place at the Endicott Hall from 1500 BST until 1700 BST.
