More jobs go at TV cabinetmakers
Toshiba factory
Toshiba says it is still committed to the city of Plymouth
Another 50 jobs are to be lost in Plymouth as a direct result of the 75 job cuts announced on Thursday by television maker Toshiba.

It has been announced that one of Toshiba's suppliers, CNC Products, is closing its factory.

The Plymouth company employs 50 people making cabinets for Toshiba.

The cabinet components are prepared as flat pack units and put together at Toshiba's factory, which is cutting a quarter of its workforce.

CNC says it spends 60,000 a month on materials. Although some are imported, some of the components are bought locally in Devon.

The company believes its particular line of manufacturing will be thing of the past from the end of next month.

Toshiba has insisted it is still committed to the city of Plymouth, despite the job losses, and the cuts would help to maintain a lean, responsive business in the face of tough market conditions.
