A38 roadworks 'take far too long'
The South West Regional Assembly has hit out at the length of time it will take to resurface the A38 Devon Expressway this winter.

The Assembly says the Transport Secretary must persuade the Highways Agency to "get its act together" to cut the 25-week timescale for the works.

The repairs start this month and is likely to cause significant delays, especially at peak times.

The region's motorists are already facing long delays on the A303.

That is because of 2.9m restrengthening work on the embankment at Marsh which is expected to last until Christmas.

In a letter to Transport Secretary Alastair Darling, the Assembly vice chairman, Sir Simon Day, complains that the 25 weeks proposed for the Expressway is far too long and says Devon County Council engineers believe the roadworks can be completed in just 15 weeks.
