The centre has about 500 donkeys in its care at Sidmouth |
A Devon-based animal sanctuary is finding new ways of disposing of the manure from hundreds of donkeys. A huge storage tank for composting the manure is to be built at the Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth.
The composting and waste water facility which has been approved by county planners will cover an area the size of a football field.
It will enable the dung to be composted more quickly and will then be used as fertiliser to help new grass grow.
The sanctuary was set up in 1973 as a charity and is home to about 500 donkeys.
