Busy start for new field hospital
Field hospital
The field hospital near Union Street is being trialled for two months
A new field hospital for treating victims of drunken violence in Plymouth's club land has had a busy first weekend.

Staff had to deal with the effects of a stabbing, a series of fights and a woman who was attacked with a bottle.

Police and the NHS set up the minor injuries centre just off Union Street.

It is intended to relieve pressure on the casualty department at Derriford Hospital and allow police to investigate attacks quickly.

Michael Willis, from the West Country Ambulance Trust, said: "I think it's a good innovation. I think it's really important to deliver care at the closest point to where the incident happened

"It is in our partnership with the police to help them as well."

The field hospital will run for a two-month trial period. If it is a success it could become a permanent feature.

Three victims of assault were treated at the hospital on Friday night.
