About 1,500 properties in the Bystock, Brixington, Witheycombe Raleigh and Liverton Business Park areas of Exmouth were hit on Wednesday morning.

South West Water said staff replaced part of the pipe and the main had been successfully refilled by the evening.

The company added that water tankers were used to make sure that reservoirs were kept topped up while the repairs were being carried out.
