Police finances in 'good order'
Devon and Cornwall police force has been praised for the way that it handles its money.

Independent watchdog the Audit Commission has warned that budgets will be tighter in the future.

But the police force is given a pat on the back for reducing running costs by about 2%.

Police Authority chair Jill Owen says the report is encouraging as it shows the police force is well managed and able to respond to new challenges.

The Audit Commission adds that officers out on the beat say they have better communication with the staff at headquarters and there is improvement in the quality of incident reporting.

The Commission concludes the way the force handles its money gives it a sound basis for operational planning.
