South West coastguards and police were called to help in several maritime incidents on Sunday.
A man died after getting into difficulties swimming off Anstys Cove Beach at Babbacombe in Devon.
Elsewhere in Devon, a surfer was airlifted from Bantham Beach and taken to Derriford Hospital with suspected spinal injuries.
In Cornwall, a female diver was rescued from a wreck in Whitsand Bay suffering from a suspected case of the bends.
Body found
In the Babbacombe accident, Brixham Coastguards, along with police and lifeboat and ambulance crews were called to the incident.
Relatives of the man, who is believed to be 23 and local, are being contacted by police.
Meanwhile, police are also dealing with a body found on the beach in Paignton.
Officers were called to Broadsands just before 0900 BST on Sunday.
Police said they were investigating whether the body was that of Donald McKinnon, from Yeovil, whose crewless yacht, the Tattie Bogle, was found at grounded Elberry Cove, near Paignton, on 2 June.
The 44-year-old female diver suffering from the bends after diving off Whitsand Bay was taken to the decompression unit at the Hyperbaric Diseases Research Unit at Derriford in Plymouth.
It is understood the incident she was involved in happened on a 20m-deep dive to the wreck of the James Egan Lane, where two divers have been killed recently. She is thought to have surfaced too quickly.
