Penzance seafront was closed on Thursday night

High tides and winds combined to create flooding in coastal areas, but coastguards said it was nowhere near as bad as the previous night.

There was flooding in Falmouth, Flushing and Cawsand in Cornwall, but Looe had fewer problems than expected.

The Environment Agency has now stood down flood watches in the north and south Devon areas.

In Penzance, the sea road was flooded as waves broke over the harbour wall which was damaged on Wednesday.

The seafronts at Torquay, Paignton, Exmouth and Sidmouth in Devon were all closed because of high waves and debris.

Coastguards have warned against people "wave dodging" during bad weather.

Train services remain severely disrupted following the breakdown of two trains at Dawlish after waves swamped the coastal line.

Replacement bus services are operating between Newton Abbot and Exeter St Davids and St Erth and Penzance.

Network Rail is working to repair the Newton Abbot line, but has given no guarantee that the line will reopen on Friday.

The region currently has no direct rail service to London.
