Matt Prete died near Tavistock |
Devon and Cornwall Police are warning motorcyclists to be more aware of the hazards on the region's road, after five deaths in less than three days. They are urging motorcyclists to take responsibility for their own safety.
Inspector Robin Derges says although motorbikes are becoming more powerful it is still possible to ride the bikes sensibly and safely.
A DVD will be issued to anyone buying a new motorbike later this year, as part of a government 'Think' campaign.
'Vulnerable'
On Tuesday night, a motorcyclist and his pillion passenger died near Bude, Cornwall.
Barry Cobbledick, 37, and Luke Parish, 23, were on a Yamaha R1 when it collided with a Land Rover Freelander on the A3072 near Holsworthy.
Both the victims were from Holsworthy.
A few hours earlier a fatal crash in West Dorset left a 36-year-old motorcyclist dead.
On Monday, 22-year-old Matthew Prete from Plymouth died when his motorcycle collided with a BMW at Gulworthy Cross near Tavistock and on Sunday a 62-year-old man died on the A30 near Bodmin, Cornwall.
Enjoy driving
Mike Grainger of Plymouth Motorcycle Club said Mr Prete had only been driving for about 12 months.
He said: "He was a good friend. Although it was a very nice evening, we've had a wet spell and people go out to enjoy themselves and unfortunately these sort of things happen."
Devon and Cornwall Police say they positively encourage people to enjoy driving in the two counties.
But they stress motorcyclists are extremely vulnerable and are likely to come off worse in an accident, whoever may be at fault.
